Welcome to June in Quepos/Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. Yes, the Wahoo have showed up again! Many know that Wahoo will peel line off your reel at an amazing rate, but it isn't only the drag screaming action that makes the Wahoo one of my favorite species but they are one of the finest eating fish in the sea, be it cooked or as sushi. The months of June and July produce some of the years largest fish with 60 pounders not being uncommon.
We are catching some small Yellowfin Tuna and the Dorado(Mahi Mahi) will be moving in soon. A few Sailfish and Marlin are being caught as well and the offshore bottomfishing has been on.
The inshore action will remain good throughout the coming months with the roosterfish being the primary target of inshore anglers. And remember, the off season pricing is still in effect in most major hotels making the summer time to save on lodging in Quepos.
